Rolling Along...
5:49am

What's been going on? I did have a go at that "lovely hand dyed purple aida". But I'm tabling this project for the time being. (It gets to sit on a table with other half tried ideas and virginal canvases.)

I learned some things in the process. The intended design... let's just say hexi-symmetrical mandalas don't work so well on aida canvas. (The flower has SIX petals, etc.) My first mandala, translated into tapestry, worked because it is quadra-symmetrical. (There are FOUR small flowers, the central flower has FOUR petals.)

The design, colored in 2005 from a linear design by Clare Goodwin, with its six petals...

I may return to this, someday...

Meanwhile, my next mandala will be based on the following digital mandala, done in 2003:

This is all my own design, unlike the six petaled one...

But I'm making it in purple tones...

But what's on the hoop now? The fabric for the purple mandala hasn't even arrived yet. (I'm opting for a simple dark gray canvas. The hand dyed fabrics are very soft, making them trickier to work with, and the canvas will be nearly covered up, anyway.)

It's better to use the fancy hand dyed fabric for a design in which the fabric shines!

Hence, what's on the hoop now:

The United Federation of Planets flag as interpreted by Amy Reeve of "CrossedOutStitchedUp"

The lovely hand dyed fabric is by Picture This Plus It's perfect to suggest swirling nebulas in space.
I'm not sure why the golden rings scanned so orange. They are the DMC 676, 677, 680 and 729 called for in the pattern. And the lettering and garland are DMC 5200 white, I don't know why they look blue?

I'm doing mine flag shape, as a banner, as opposed to being framed by a round hoop. It will go beside my two other Star Trek related projects, Picard and "Live Long and Prosper".
