An Awful Beginning to the New Year
7:30am

Yesterday morning I noted in a little datebook:

"Barber's "Adagio for Strings" is playing. I am mentally supplying visual accompaniment of all the fiery images of the blazing fires around Los Angeles."

This morning, I stop to take a count. As of the fourth day, "There are five active blazes, including the Palisades Fire, which has burned 19,978 acres and is "one of the most destructive fires in the history of Los Angeles," the city's fire chief said, while the Eaton Fire has burned 13,690 acres. The Kenneth Fire, which ignited Thursday in the Calabasas and Hidden Hills areas, grew to almost 1,000 acres in mere hours. In total, the wildfires have burned through more than 35,000 acres and destroyed an estimated 10,000 buildings, officials say, while critical fire conditions could continue into the weekend." More than 35,000 acres! So many prayers for all the people effected by these fires.

Meanwhile, I Keep Stitching
12:03pm

Yes, I've returned to the not quite forgotten tapestry of Ma'at:

Almost all of the right side has been filled in.
It is a rather slow process...

And I am feeling the call to new projects

A tapestry of a colored pencil mandala I did back in 2011:

Imagining what it might look like (220x220 pixel image expanded to show pixelization (probable stitch divisions)

The 20 count 'mimosa green' aida has arrived for it.

And then...
...I did declare I was done with ankhs... BUT:

I looked at this painting I did in college and...
Wouldn't you know it, but I saw in my mind's eye a matching blue and orange ankh next to it!

Mock-up of design...

So it's going to be very hard to stay on task when the 14 count "touch of blue" aida arrives for this design.

I will try to finish the Ma'at tapestry. At the very least, I will finish the entire right half.

Ankh Progress
6:30am

Well, I got MOST of the right side of the Ma'at tapestry done...
I think the orange doesn't look that red and the dark blue has a darker and greenish tinge when seen in person.

Ankh All Done, Except for Hem
6:30am

I just need the hemming at top and bottom now...
I still think the orange doesn't look that red and the dark blue has a darker and greenish tinge when seen in person.

It is next to the painting which inspired it...

Ma'at Tapestry Progress

All of the right side and middle of the Ma'at tapestry is done, except for this squarish patch...
Maybe in a month or two I'll be done???

More Ma'at Tapestry Progress and Plans
7:30am

I'm faithfully plugging along. Maybe within the next month I'll be done?

When my fingers get sore from being poked, etc, I plan other projects.

First I have limned a head view of Set, based on an artwork I did in 2008:

A little darker than the original digital piece...

This is on pale gray 20 count aida canvas

And I'm revisiting an art work I did in 2020:

The original needlepoint was based more on the colors on the art in KV57.
In this recolored reference image, I'm going more for a 'glowing in the darkness' look.

All the errors will be covered over.
I might extend its length to make it appear as if the planned center ankh pendent is coming from her collar?
(Light blue 20 count aida)

Continuing Ma'at Tapestry Progress
9:25am

I'm making progress on the huge Ma'at tapestry. (Six inch (15cm) ruler there to show size of remaining area)
I'm aiming for a finish in April.
