From info card: "When in Nice, Henri Matisse often stayed at the Hôtel Méditerranée, a Rococco-style building he later described as 'faked, absurd, delicious!' Interior at Nice is among the most ambitious of a series of images the artist produced using the hotel as a backdrop. In these works, all done in the naturalistic style to which he had returned around this time, Matisse often included the figure of a young woman: this carefully composed composition featured his favorite model of the time, Antoinette Arnoux. A supreme colorist, Matisse's warm, silvery palette and loose, fluid brushstrokes evoke the radiant warmth and vibrant light of an afternoon in Nice."
