I found the following while casually perusing "Rûnarâl I", by Stephen Flowers:
"There is an Old Norse word which answers to the sound of the Word perfectly. This is Rúna. It means (feminine) "secret advisor." There is also a masculine form of the word: Rúni, which means (masculine) "secret advisor". In an esoteric sense this is the "one who whispers in your ear." This is always an erotically symbolic entity -- and is usually perceived as a contra-sexual being. That is, for men it is usually seen as a female being, for women a male one. This is part of your soul -- but a part of it which is always urging you to evolve to a higher level and Become. The reason for this is that she (or he) is lonely and you can only be reunited with her (or him) once you become a part of her (or his) world. This unseen accompanying spirit is the eternally transformative presence of RÙNA in your life. In a sense this is an inner partner and advisor on the Runic Way." (pg. 38)
