How Shall I Come Forth?
May 1, 2010
How shall I come forth?
How shall I ascend?
By day, by night,
my coming-into-being evolves.

By the dark fire of Set,
by the piercing laser vision of Horus,
by the balancing wisdom of Thoth,
I come forth to learn my True Will
and bring it into fruition.

By the secret magic of Isis,
I renew myself.
By the radiant magic of Hathor,
I extend blessing-strength to those I love.
By the fiery magic of Sekhmet,
protection to those I love.
Ever renewed, ever renewing,
the great cycle of Ma'at is complete.

How shall I come forth?
How shall I ascend?
By day, by night,
my coming-into-being evolves.

How is it to arise, to come forth, to "work as the god" - aka "paXer neter" (Webb, page 7), what essential powers are we calling forth from the archetypal depths, the 'as above, so below'? How do we draw these things forth from our evolving-into-divinity core? The magical quest is to rise above the mundane, to 'come into being' and thereby achieve lasting works. A true work of magic lasts beyond time and space. That sent forth by Prince Setne Khaemwaset in 1250 BCE still speaks with the sensitive ear to hear, and we remember his name, for he sent it forth with his magical hand. The 'as above, so below', the archetypal powers are what we call forth.

'By the dark fire of Set', it is he who burst forth from the womb of Nuit, meteoric tearing through the sky, this iron, the 'bones of Set'. That sky-iron which makes the adze which opens the mouth, enables consciousness, allows us to say 'I am'. It is the primal power at the root, the force that enables life to exist.

'By the piercing laser vision of Horus', Horus the far-seeing one is "imagined as a celestial falcon whose right eye was the sun and left eye the moon". (Wilkinson page 200) The falcon as he soars and hunts needs good vision. As the god associated with worldly kingship, this represents the accurate perception of the world around us.

'By the balancing wisdom of Thoth', Thoth is known as he who reconciles the two lords, that is Set and Horus. What conflicts there might be between internal fire and soaring vision are resolved with his calm judgement.

The ancient symbols are called forth in this excerpt:

"The lector-priest who says that he is Thoth, recalls discordance that was overcome:
"The distress that causes confusion, has been driven away, and all the gods are in harmony.
I have given Horus his eye, placed the wd3t-eye in the correct position.
I have given Seth his testicles, so that the two lords are content through the work of my hands." 3)

In the "ritual of Amenophis I" the offerings made are called "eyes" and "testicles":
"come to these offerings . . .
I know the sky, I know the earth, I know Horus, I know Seth. Horus is appeased with his eyes, Seth is appeased with his testicles.
I am Thoth, who reconciles the gods, who makes the offerings in their correct form."
(TeVelde, page 50)

Here, the lector-priest and Amenophis are 'working as the god'. When internal fire and soaring vision are in balance, we can know our true Will, that which fulfills the needs of our evolving Divinity. We won't become mired in the mundane and lose sight of what essential expressions we can bring forth. "To squander one's moment of action (of the heart) is the abomination of the ka", advises Ptah-Hotep (Maxim 11 (via Jacq)) The ka is an aspect of our soul.
