"Turkish Tankards"
5:10pm
I've been continuing digging in old photo folders, finding all sorts of lovely things! |
Tankard Turkey, Iznik, Ottoman period, late 16th century Composite body painted under glaze Dimensions: H: 21.1 W: 16.4 D: 12.3 cm Purchase, Freer Gallery F1968.68 Info card |
The following tankard at Chicago's Art Institute is very similar to the one at the Freer Gallery. (I suspect the same artist made it.) |
This piece isn't a tankard, but it's also fritware: |
Twelve-Point Star Iran or Central Asia, late 15th century Glazed fritware tiles cut and reassembled as a mosaic, 59.7 cm (23 1/2 in.) Gift of Frank G. Logan, Art Institute of Chicago #1925.40 |
