"Seeking Peace"
6:27am

An unsettled feeling falls over me. Chaos on the east coast, chaos on the west coast, hurricane and tsunami. The crazy busy season is full upon me at work. In the midst of all this, I try to find my inner calm. I wrote a brief meditation this morning:

The breath, when unattended, floated freely. Caught back in, the cycle continued evenly. Slow, slow, the filling of belly. Slow, slow the releasing. Slow the mind, hurry is no more. Release, and breathe. Release and breathe. What do you need to be present for? You are here now. Breathe and release. Now is all you need.

I report one happy accomplishment: I finished the Photo Gallery of Impressionist Art at Chicago's Art Institute So many lovely pieces there!

Next project will be going through the ancestor photo album. Thanks to generous donations from relatives, I have so many nice ones to add. But for now, the project is to just get through the busy season at work! Breathe! Relax the muscles behind the eyes. Take stretching breaks. Breathe!

"Happy Halloween"
5:33am

At a time when many remember their ancestors, I thought I'd share a photo or two of them. The first is of my Uncle Donald, Gramma Horschler, Aunt June and Dad. I made it for 6x4, taking the better heads from one photo and putting them on another, as Uncle Donald's head was messed up in the other one:

Not sure when this was??

Gramma was a beautiful woman. Not sure how old she was here, maybe in her 40's? (Sized for 5x7)

One of Grandpa, maybe in the 50's, when he was in his fifties. Or was it in the early 60's???

"Visiting in Spirit"
9:54am

Scene from my visit to Seattle in August, 2006

I got digging in the photo albums remembering an evening scene in Seattle for the Photo Friday theme of "Evening". I came across this photo which I'd forgotten about. I like the way the Space Needle seems a benevolant watcher over the scene. (Well, at least I hope those ascending it to watch out through its windows are benevolent!)

Earlier today, I scanned a map of Sahure's pyramid complex which I found in a book borrowed from the library. I like the way it helps me to visualize what it was like in its glory days. Afterwards, I hunted out two photos on Flicker to supplement my photos of Sahure's column which is at the Met museum. Although I might not ever make it there to Egypt to see it in person, I can visit in spirit!
