"THE BODY" - "Standing Woman" by Gaston Lachaise

Nothing speaks more forceably of the physicality of the body than this powerful sculpture!
Standing Woman (Elevation), 1912-1915; cast 1930
Gaston Lachaise (American (born France) 1882–1935) Bronze, 73 7/8 x 32 x 17 3/4in., (187.6 x 81.3 x 45.1cm)
Bequest of Scofield Thayer, 1982, Metropolitan Museum 1984.433.34

(From info card):
"Lachaise found his lifelong muse in the ample figure of Isabel Dutaud Nagle, whom he met in 1903 and later married. This sculpture, one of the largest of the many female nudes he created, is based on her physique. Yet Standing Woman goes beyond the particulars of any individual to suggest an archetypal image of ideal beauty."
