"This picture belongs to the same group as Valley of the Creuse, Sunlight Effect, at right. Seen in overcast conditions, the river valley presents a wholly different aspect, its bright greens and blues replaced with a bruised palette of purple and mauve. Monet's fascination with instantaneity and the changing effects of light and weather led him to return again and again to paint the same location under varying conditions." (From info card)
