With five rail cars housing a fine arts exhibition, interactive area, artist studio, gift shop and staff administrative space, Artrain USA is America's only traveling art museum on a TRAIN.
Artrain USA has been bringing art to the people via the nation's railroads since 1971.
The 2001 - 2002 season featured ARTISTRY IN SPACE, 78 paintings, prints and other works from the NASA Art Program. In its search for diverse and well-known American artists, NASA consulted art experts from world-class museums and galleries. Various aspects of space exploration are revealed. Astronauts were sketched suiting up and in pensive moods, as well as active poses. The symbology is shown, such as the emotional power of lift off, to convey some of the excitement and wonder that expanding humanity's horizons brings.
Headquartered in Ann Arbor, MI, Artrain USA has a website, http://www.ArtrainUSA.org. Their next exhibition will be a Native American art exhibition for which planning and development has already begun. During 2003 Artrain USA will refurbish its interior galleries in preparation for the installation of the new exhibition. Then, for three years, from January 2004 through December 2006, the Native American art exhibition will tour across the United States.
